Class Summary Dec 11

Holy Qur’an : Komal Munir
We went over Sura Al Asr and Sura Humazah with proper pronunciation and the translation. We read brief commentaries on both Suras. Plus girls wrote down qalqala letters.

SL girls had a quiz which reviewed what they had learned this term. They did really well so no homework was given.

Covered meaning of and practical tips for patience in our daily lives. Read what the Promised Messiah AS wrote about patience in times of difficulty. Discussed the implication of technology and how it is eroding our sense of delayed gratitude. Great discussion points for parents of teens!

Homework – Asked the girls to list three things that test their patience and what tips they can use to help them in each situation.

SL Boys

Holy Qur’an : Daud Nasrullah

I asked boys about the commentary of Surah Humaza which we had discussed last week. I was happy that all of them remembered what it was about. This time we reviewed Surah Al Asr. We had a very good discussion  on it. I also collected the homework that was assigned and also assigned homework for next time. This time homework is to memorize Surah Attakathur and read it’s commentary so we can discuss in class.

Islamic Studies : Waqas Hussain

We had them take an exam covering all of the topics we’ve learned so far. Alhumdolillah all the kids did really well on the test. I was really impressed with how well they all did. I let them have off from HW for the next two weeks because of how well they did on the test.

Contemporary Studies: Khalid Kark

We listened to Hazoor’s question answer video and stopped every few minutes to have a discussion on what Hazoor said and what it meant.  Since the conversation was around elections and Trump, there was good discussion. We covered about 7 minutes of the video and all the boys actively participated in the discussion. Asked them to write a summary of the first seven minutes for the next class.

ML2

Holy Qur’an : Tahir Abdullah

Discussed “Facts from Quran” : Five daily prayers and their timings are mentioned in the Holy Quran.
Continued discussion on Vowels and short vs. Long sounds (covered some future material, which will be repeated next class along with review of previous content).
Recited Surah Quraish and discussed importance of melody and how it helps the flow and correct recitation. Each student recited selected verses with melody and correct pronunciation, we also recited the Surah as a group.
Homework previously collected was handed back with comments.
No homework assigned this time, encouraging parents to make sure kids reading Quran daily at home.

In my class we build up to meet our next class. All students must know pillars of Islam. All students must know entery and exit prayers of the mosque with translation. Girls are masahllah done with this. Boys need to fulfill the challenge. Good attendance though and good behavior of the whole class.
In Islamic Studies for ML 1 we did a review and then a written quiz on the names of positions of salat namely Qayyam, Ruku and Sajda and appropriate position during Sajda. We then did prayer for parents and a very involving and good discussion on how to respect them, help them now and take care of them when they grow old.

In ML2 Islamic studies class, we practices Jalsa prayer and Attahiyyat again. Some kids had not finished their homeworks assigned for last two classes (memorize Tahmeed, Jalsa), and some didn’t do for last class homework (memorize Attahiyyat/Tashahhud). This was re-assigned.

We also covered what to do when someone joins congregational salat late. What are rules for completing rakas etc. No homework on this.

We did an impromptu skit of the mercury story in their content to see how much the kids had retained and if they understood the meaning of it. Alhamdulillah the kids performed very well and explained very eloquently what the lesson from the story was. We also discussed the importance of telling the truth and how it was part of their Nasarat and Atfal pledges. No Homework
